A Trip with Mom: Prague

My mom and her friend Trish came to visit me in Germany! They spent one day here and I showed them the lab, my apartment, and the most delicious street food :) After that, we were off to Prague! It was so much fun, and I'm so happy they were able to come visit. An unforgettable adventure!

A selfie by Charles bridge :)

Prague has canals too! We took a walking tour and our guide explained that the little troll guy on this water wheel is actually a water sprite... I thought they were supposed to be cute!

Even though John Lennon had never been to Prague, the Czech people were very fascinated with him and young people used to come to this wall to play his music and soak up the hippie spirit. The graffiti on John Lennon wall used to be more thematic, but now is mostly made by tourists and has no overall message.

We saw the changing of the guard at the castle...

And sampled some Czech beer after the tour!

These "chimney breads" are billed as a traditional Czech dessert, but we later learned that they're really Hungarian and merchants just use some clever marketing to sell more food.
I can confirm that they're delicious anyways though!

Look how cute we are <3

AND we stumbled upon Tycho Brahe's house! He's a super famous astronomer and was Kepler's assistant, who basically invented the three major laws of astrophysics. Super cool and nerdy!

Later we even found a statue of Brahe and Kepler. I honestly didn't know they were Czech!
The guards almost look like nutcrackers in their little costumes :) Any time the guards in blue uniforms are doing something, they have to be guarded by the "real" military men in the green uniforms. The latter have big guns and definitely seem more intimidating...

We went to the beer garden on top of a hill because it's supposed to be popular with young people (aka me), but it turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip for all three of us! With a view like this, that wasn't too hard...

We watched this street performer set up while eating breakfast one day, and it was such a cool feat of engineering that I had to take a picture with him and drop some coins in his bucket :)

I love bookstores :) Especially when they're in English!

One of the coolest things we did was have lunch in the old cellar of the monastery near the castle. It was built in the 13th century and totally looked like it! Plus they had blueberry flavored beer :)
Our table in the cellar :)

The old Gothic church...

Which had really beautiful stained glass windows too!
I don't remember what this is... but it looks important!

Another favorite activity was visiting this city park where tons of peacocks live! We saw some juveniles practice spreading their tail feathers, and this guy let us get really close to admire his plumage :)

The three of us at the church :)
