My Research

 In One(ish) Word: Sustainable Construction

In One Sentence: The long-term durability of cement-like construction materials that are made from mine waste.

In One Paragraph:

This project is a partnership between my university and one in Peru. The region in Peru has a lot of gold mining, so the waste produced during mining is a concern there. The waste rock can contain harmful heavy metals from the mining process, and my research group has found a way to turn this material into something resembling concrete. My task is to evaluate this "geopolymer concrete" to see if it can withstand extreme conditions and long time periods without the heavy metals leaching out.
